CRERI: Education and ResearchOur teaching program trains four colorectal surgeons each year and is one of the few board approved programs in Colon and Rectal surgery in the nation. Our physicians contribute to the advances in patient care through their active involvement in ongoing clinical research studies in the area of colorectal diseases, the participation in meetings, the preparation of book chapters and scientific publications, and other research and patient related activities. Fellows SponsorshipFellows complete their clinical training with The Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando. The Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando is the core facility for the accredited training program in colon and rectal surgery, sponsored by Orlando Health. This program trains three colorectal surgeons each year and has been in operation since 1990. It has developed special areas of interest in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant diseases including colon and rectal cancer and the diagnosis and treatment of functional bowel disorders such as chronic constipation and incontinence. The Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando research program also participates in several research projects in cooperation with the MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando Cancer Research Institute (CRI) with the development of new models for the study of colon and rectal cancer in small animals, tumor growth and the impact of several surgical techniques on the immune response to cancer. In addition, a clinical study to assess the immune response of cancer patients with the use of different surgical techniques. Currently, up to four physicians are selected annually to participate in the program. The cost is $100,000 for one fellow to study in this intensive training. Your $100,000 sponsorship will be honored at graduation, our annual event Gala, and will be displayed in our facility for a lifetime. |
